Anonymous asked: All the shipping keeps kinda turning me off. I mean, sure, Sakana is a romantic comedy, and I really like the way you write that romance, but I find it really weird people are saying they are just in for the "yaois" or something. There's so much more to Sakana than the shipping fanart of Taisei and Yuudai.
I’m pretty sure any talk of ‘yaois’ is a joke since I don’t make a big effort to draw my characters attractively, and this comic is PG-13 at its very worst, and it’s pretty impossible for me to draw anything above an R-rating. Every once in a while I’ll make a joke about it or draw something really stupid for laughs?? But anybody who is ACTUALLY just in it for the yaois has probably already left, or is finding themself very sexually frustrated.
I understand that shipping in a series is a turn off for some people, and a turn on for others which is why I MYSELF try to keep neutral on the matter. I’m focused on writing this comic the way I’ve always intended to write it. Whatever happens in the comic happens because I’ve had it planned for months if not years.
If shipping is not your thing, I’d advise you to stay close to the subject matter. I don’t reblog anything that rates over PG-13, and I tag every shipping-themed fanart I receive with ‘sakana shipping’ if you’d like to tumblr savior it. If you’d like to work against the shipping, ask me questions that have to do with the other characters, or about the story in general.
I will say this though: I provide a free online comic for people to read. I enjoy seeing people enjoying the comic, but because it’s out there with no strings attached I can’t control HOW those people enjoy the comic. I can only ask that nobody get carried away, or take what is meant to be a fun little slice of life comic too seriously. I don’t mind that people ship, but it’s good to be respectful of people that prefer to stick close to the subject matter. And vice-versa! Really everyone should be respectful of everyone. You’re all getting the comic for free, which means no one is more or less entitled to enjoy it than anyone else.
Also, thank you very much for enjoying the comic, and I hope you continue to do so. I will continue to plug away at this big story and publish it online.
