Studio Ghibli has produced amazing classics of animation— movies that inspire and move us unlike any other films can. But what about the people who make the studio? What did they do before they became Ghibli? What did they do after they left?

Watch with YKARPS proudly presents four classics across four hours made by four of the finest talent Studio Ghibli has to offer. Cellists, cyclists, concubines and crooks are waiting for you, in adventures that stretch from the mountains of Spain, to the ancient palaces of China. If you love animation and film, you cannot miss this stream.

Summaries:

Lupin III’s Greatest Capers! Directed By: Hayao Miyazaki

  • The Albatross Wings of Death
  • Lupin must rescue Fujiko from the deadly hands of Lonebach, a weapons dealer with a nuke in a suitcase and the massive, impenetrable, undefeatable Albatross airliner to carry it.
  • Aloha, Lupin-
  • A strange robot is robbing the jewelry stores in tokyo, and it’s giving Lupin the credit! If you’ve seen Laputa: Castle in the Sky… you’re going to want to see this.

Like the Clouds, Like the Wind Character Designs By: Katsuya Kondo (Character Designer for My Neightbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service)

(Also directed by Hisauki Toriumi, the director of Gatchaman and The Mysterious Cities of Gold!)

Being the Emperor’s concubine sounds like a pretty great gig to Ginga— three square meals a day, education, and no more chores like her father makes her do in their country home! But in the court, where manners and protocol rule the day, how will simple, excitable Ginga survive? Then again, with a rebellion sweeping across China, how will anybody survive!

Gauche the Cellist Directed By: Isao Takahata (Director of Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamadas)

Look, guys, I don’t think Gauce is gonna be able to do it. He’s got four nights to get himself ready to play his cello at a recital of Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony, and I just don’t think he’s got it in him. It’s going to take a miracle to get him ready in time.

But then, last night, a cat gave him a tomato and some pointers of how do play Shumann’s “Träumerei”, so maybe a miracle isn’t too far away…

Nasu: Summer in Andalusia Directed By: Kitaro Kosaka (Animation Director for Whisper of the Heart, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo)

Pepe Benengeli’s life just keeps getting worse. Brought back to his home in Andalusia, Spain, to ride backup to his much more famous partner in the prestigious Vuelta a España bicycle race, Pepe not only has to contend with the harsh demands of his corporate sponsors, but also the wedding of his former girlfriend to his older brother! But when he accidentally learns that his sponsor plans to fire him after the race, everything changes— and Pepe sets out to win back everything he wants.
