It’ll be a coloring stream so therefor really painful to watch as I struggle to pick good colors. SOMETIMES MY COMPUTER BLUESCREENS so if I manage to set this up but then suddenly disappear, that’s what happened.
Hello Mad! I hate to be a bother and I know you've answered this before, but what's the brand name for the pens you use for your comics? I've been testing out different pens and I wanted to try out the ones you linked once forever ago, but I can't remember the name of the brand, or where the link is.
I primarily use Kuretake pens, including the #55, #33, and the Fudegokochi. You can find them all here at this site: http://www.jetpens.com/
The brush tip on the 33 is the same as the 55, but doesn’t have the latter’s smaller tip. These are BIG HUGE BRUSHES and may take some time to get used to if you haven’t used brushes or brush pens before.
The Fudegokochi has a smaller and less-pliable tip, but also takes a bit of time to master because it uses a lot of ink and is easily smeared.
Here are some good brush pens for people looking to practice. They also have smaller, less-pliable tips, but dry up faster. I use these for lettering a lot:
It should be noted that NONE OF THE PENS I’VE LISTED USE WATERPROOF INK, and will smear if drawn over with marker, and are also resistant to white out and correctional fluids. If you wanna use them with markers like I do in sketches sometimes, they have to be the last step in the drawing process. I usually correct my lines in photoshop. AND NEVER EVER GET YOUR PICTURES WET :U
Mad!!! It says the course with the course number you've listed for the mini comics class doesn't exist!!! I looked it up and it says it is 13049. Sadly I can't qualify because I don't have the prereqs, but it sounds AWESOME.
Hey there! A few people asked me about this so I’m gonna answer publicly to clear up any questions!
I guess the course number doesn’t match in the email I got but it’s definitely there if you search Sequential Art classes for Fall 2014!
As for the prerequisite classes, sometimes you can submit a prerequisite waiver (found in the FORMS tab on myscad) that lets you take classes out of order. You won’t get out of taking the prereq classes, but you can put them off until later or take them at the same time. I transferred into SCAD undergrad in my sophomore year from a different college, so I became a master prerequisite waiver filler-outer to get all of my classes done in time to graduate with my class. Also you can email Professor Fisher about prereqs and stuff like that! If you’ve been getting good grades and have a reputation for working hard and getting your projects in on time, the waiver will definitely go through!
HEY PEOPLE WHO ARE UNDERGRADS AT THE SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN!! I think I posted about this a few months ago, but it’s finally been confirmed! This fall quarter you can sign up for the MINI-COMICS class (SEQA 360-01 if you wanna look it up)!
The class is from 8am-10:30am every Tuesday and Thursday morning! Maybe you’re not a morning person, potential class taker, but HERE ARE SOME GREAT REASONS TO GET UP EARLY AND PARTAKE IN THIS GREAT OPPORTUNITY:
1. IT’S A PRODUCTION-BASED CLASS
Are you tired of all the technique and theory in the Seqa department and you wanna try your hand at producing some sweet comic pages?? This class has you produce 5 minicomics of varying size, length and binding techniques! You get to learn about bookbinding and screen printing! Think of all the awesome new portfolio pieces you’re gonna make! THINK OF ALL THE NEW CON MERCH YOU’RE GONNA SELL!!
2. THE ANNUAL SCAD MINI-COMICS EXPO IS IN THE FALL INSTEAD OF THE SPRING THIS YEAR
And you’re gonna be like smokin’ all the competition with your great handmade comics and makin’ hella bucks.
3. IT’S BEING TAUGHT BY PROFESSOR DUNCAN
Well-known as SCAD’s resident mini-comics hoarder! He gives great critiques and is an awesome teacher! ALSO HE IS VERY FUNNY, which is helpful in the early mornings.
4. I’M GOING TO BE THE TEACHING ASSISTANT.
If you take this class, twice a week at ass-o’clock in the morning I will throw open the doors of Hayman’s Hall and personally welcome you into mini-comics production hell. Then we can talk about your comics and stuff for two and a half hours. We can all help each other stay awake by being really enthusiastic about your work and giving helpful critiques to your classmates!
SO PLEASE CONSIDER SIGNING UP FOR THE MINICOMICS CLASS. It was added to the class roster very last minute, and it might take some rearranging to fit it into your schedule, but it’s an amazing opportunity to put all the skills you’ve been learning to good use, and you totally get to make convention merchandise during class time. It’s great.
Root Beer Guy has his first class of Banana Guard recruits and it’s time to send them to boot camp. With the Head Banana Guard looking over his new class, what could possibly go wrong? Unfortunately, these Bananas are a little more than bruised by this new class and they’re not going to make it easy. Will Gingerbread Muto, Tree Trunks, Gum Drop Lass,…
I’m sending work to some companies so I thought I’d put together a more professional-esque tumblr. I’ll be uploading or reblogging only the stuff I’m most proud of/is the most relevant to my professional work.
Really the only exciting thing on there right now is the complete “NO PARKING” minicomic, which I only posted previews of before. Otherwise you’ve probably seen it all already!
Here it is in case you’re interested (or want to hire me :V)
aaaa I’m gonna be at Comic Con IN LESS THAN A WEEK. I’ll be signing Banana Guard Academy comics with Kent Osborn, who is one of the writers and also the current head writer for the show! (I forget if that’s Friday or Saturday, I think it’s Saturday morning…)
And on Friday night I’ll be on the ADVENTURE TIME DRAMATIC READING PANEL (not the actual name but close to it?) Finn and Marceline’s voice actors will be there, and Kent, and probably some other people, and me! I’m not sure what I’ll be doing but the point is I’ll be there, probably to give emotional support or something? To draw them pictures? To sit there and look cute? Who knows. COME SEE ME.
Also you can get Adventure Time and Regular Show and Bravest Warriors sketch covers from me all weekend long, except for Sunday because I’ve got a really early flight out! See you at the Boom! Studios booth!
You may have answered this but will Sakana books be made available again in your store in the near future?
Hey there! Here’s the deal with the books:
I wasn’t planning on reprinting Volumes 1 and 2 as they are now, but I haven’t had the time to reformat them before Otakon, so I will be taking 50 copies of each to the convention, selling the rest online, and THEN reformatting both books. THESE WILL BE THE LAST 100 COPIES OF THE BOOKS AS THEY ARE NOW.
Sometime in the early fall I’d like to kickstart the printing of the THIRD SAKANA VOLUME, I will also take this opportunity to REPRINT VOLUMES 1 AND 2 WITH NEW COVERS, NEW SIZES, NEW FORMATTING, NEW EXTRAS, EVERYTHING. My hope is to improve their look and readability, as well as give all three matching covers (that actually say Vol. 1, 2, etc. on them.)
BUT HERE’S THE KICKER FOR OTAKON: Since a lot of people already have volumes 1 and 2, I’m going to attempt to write and draw AN ENTIRE SOLO SAKANA MINICOMIC and print it to sell at the con. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll definitely be selling copies of that online afterwards, so even if you can’t get the physical books for a few months, hopefully you’ll be temporarily satiated by minicomic shenanigans. If god is gracious I may even be able to color or at least graytone it :u
So there are my “plans” which may or may not change depending on the mountains of work I am constantly wading through WE’LL SEE. Thank you for your interest though!
ALSO A REMINDER TO EVERYONE THAT I HAVE AN INSPIRATION BLOG, but it’s mostly just pics I think are cool and relevant with no actual explanation and a few tags for stories I may or may not ever get around to writing :V
I’ve decided I need a more central and a little more professional home for Sakana, but I don’t really have the time in my life to get together a wordpress site and learn html (I KNOW LITERALLY NOTHING ABOUT HTML.) So I’m going to try out the tumblr webcomic theme and see if that works for a while. At least I’ll be able to keep it all in one place and not scattered all over the internet.
If anybody has any experience with the webcomic theme or any tips to impart on my poor brain, I’d appreciate it!
Not sure when it’s gonna get off the ground, but I just saved the Sakanacomic.tumblr.com url if you wanna pre-follow or anything.
