REBLOGS HELP THE COMIC!
I’ve been super lucky to have this many people read Check,Please! without advertising the comic. And the audience and fandom grows because of you—by sharing the comic on your blog, tweeting about it, and forcing your roommate to read it in lieu of studying for finals. Thanks, you guys! Please keep it up! Stop studying for finals!!
But yup: The more people that want to see Check, Please!, the more Check, Please! can exist. Supply and demand or something!!!
Notes on Comic 15
- LARDO. Who is she? Why does she get an entire comic as an introduction? Why does she have cool hair? Who is this tiny Vietnamese girl who rivals Bitty in cuteness? Who gets hugs from Jack? Who gets BFF-noogies from Shitty and is the usurper of Ransom and Holster’s Haus Beer Pong Doubles Championship throne? Lardo is just…Lardo. She’s the bro-iest person at Samwell under 5’5”. She’s also an opportunity to draw characters in clothing other than jeans, Samwell Hockey T-shirts, and underarmour. Go Lardo!!!
- THE KITCHEN. For a comic that’s supposedly about hockey there have been a lot of scenes in the Haus’ kitchen. Well I guess CP! is actually really technically about a compulsive baker who happens to be on a college hockey team. And for those wondering if Bitty frequently talks to kitchens/ovens/pies the answer is most definitely yes. Do Jack and the other boys walk in on him doing it—also yes.
- I just wanted to point out that Shitty is wearing a hastily modified NASCAR T-shirt in that last panel. That’s because in addition to dressing like he’s in an alternative rock band, Shitty also dresses like he’s trailer trash, and not like he’s effing loaded and went to Andover.
*Heavy sigh* TL;DR — My continued apologies for not updating. Reasons basically = school. The only way I could do constant updates is if CP! were my job, which it isn’t.
*Dreamy sigh* In an ideal world CP! would update every other week with Ask-a-wellies on Monday and ficlets on Wednesday and raffles for stickers and official Samwell University Hockey T-shirts and Samwell Hockey game pucks and I’m gonna cry.

Ngozi is my super cool super amazing grad school friend who is very smart and draws a cute comic about cool (not really) guys on a hockey team GO READ ITTTT
Sakana by Madeline Rupert (it’s also available on smackjeeves without a membership) is one of those adorable comics I can’t get anyone else to read. Maybe I’m just not being clear enough about how utterly awesome it is.
It’s about two brothers who work at a fishmarket in Japan and their shenanigans with their friends and co-workers.
Jiro of the shark-fin hair can’t talk to girls but gosh he likes the lady across the way. His brother, Taro, who usually has his glasses, is a recovering thug with an extensive back tattoo we have yet to see all of. They live with Jiro’s best friend, the codependent and muppety Taisei. They work with Yuudai, who’s incredibly prickly and hiding some serious secrets. And his cat.
I think my favorite part of Rupert’s comic (if we aren’t including ALL OF IT) is the way she portrays languages other than Japanese.
Jan speaks German and Taisei speaks English, and the different languages appear as shapes and squiggles that look like they should be legible but are not.
I think it’s a great stylistic technique.
The story is pretty cute and looks like it’s going interesting directions, the character dynamics are great, I love the art style, its only flaw is a tendency to go on hiatus when the creator is overworked… Please, read this webcomic!
Hey thanks for the review!
I MIGHT BE SPOTTY WITH UPDATES BUT ISN’T NOW AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO MEET/REACQUAINT YOURSELF WITH OUR FAVORITE FISH LOSERS???
didyouorderacheeseomelette asked: Mad, are you gonna do reprints of the Sakana volumes?? I didn't know how to get one before, but now I have a friend who lives in the States and one in Canada, so I could prolly ask them to buy it for me. I live all the way in the Philippines...
Hey there! I do ship all over the world (but the price of shipping is more expensive the further I have to ship, so the rate does go up.)
Right now I’m so inundated with work that I can’t guarantee a quick, reasonably-timed turnaround for store orders, and I also can’t guarantee regular Sakana updates. So I have to keep them out of the store for now to save everyone some hassle.
ON THAT NOTE: I’m going to be redesigning the covers for Vol. 1 and 2 for a re-release when Volume 3 eventually drops (hopefully this summer). I also don’t want people who have recently ordered the comics to feel like they just missed a good opportunity, so I’m spacing everything out.
Thanks for your interest and I hope this answers some of your questions!
Okay that’s the last time i’ll clog up your feed with kickstarter reminders (FOR NOW…)
